Go Heat!

Kyle getting ready for the Heat gameThe defending NBA champions are down 0-2 to the pesky Chicago Bulls this year in the playoffs. Unfortunately, Wade does not seem to be the player from last year’s playoff due to his injury, but I still think he and Shaq can do it. In order to help inspire the Heat, the Kyle is pulling out all the stops and dressing up for the occasion. (thanks Mom and Grandma!) Dad will be joining him this evening to pull the Heat to a victory. Click on the image to enlarge.

Week in Cabo

Kyle in CaboWow…first of all, it has been over 2 weeks since I last posted anything, so I’m sure all of you are slightly upset with me. Of course, I do have the excuse that I was on vacation, but you don’t want to hear this, but I’m sure you would like to hear about the vacation…so here goes.

Just under a year ago Barbie and I found out that she was pregnant and would be expecting somewhere near the beginning of 2007. With that in mind, we decided that after about 4 months of sleepless nights and no alone time after the baby was born, that we would need a vacation. Since we had just bought a timeshare in Cabo, what better place to go. Now, of course, a vacation where you have to take care of a baby is really no vacation at all, so we invited not only my parents to come along also, but also Barbie’s parents. They were to be our “babysitters” for the week, while Barbie and I decompressed. Both parents accepted the invitation with the babysitter stipulation, so we were all set.

Kyle and Donnie in CaboWell, 8 months later the week finally arrived. Our only real concern was how Kyle was going to do on the flights, as babies don’t know how to equalize their ears during takeoff and landing. Luckily, as in most cases with Kyle, he didn’t have hardly any problems with this except on the landing on the return flight, and I just credit that to the fact that he was just hungry and grumpy. Other than this, Kyle was great the entire weekend, and got to go in the pool for the first time ever. Unfortunately, Barbie didn’t wait for me so I only got to see his second time in the pool, but oh well, we still got some good pictures of him with each of us. I assume in just a few years he will be like his mother and be a fish in the water.

The great thing about Cabo during this time of year is that it is not crowded, the temperature is not baking, and the average rainfall is 0.00 inches. This probably explains why the place is a desert for the most part, but it is good for vacationing. Honestly, we didn’t do a ton during the vacation, although we did get to play some tennis, golf and eat at some very nice restaurants, but it was mainly a relaxing weekend. The main stress came the day before we were supposed to leave, as we realized our passports were missing. First we had to head to the airport to get a piece of paper that said we could leave the country, then we had to go to Cabo San Lucas to the U.S. Consulate to get paperwork that would allow us to enter the U.S. Our main concern was that we had no proof that Kyle was our boy, so we were hoping they wouldn’t think we had come down to Mexico to buy a gringo kid. Actually, everything went smoothly and we got all our paperwork, so it ended up not being that bad. Then, on the day we were leaving, Barbie was sitting in the airport, and a couple of Mexican security guards were walking around looking a people and comparing them to some passports they had in their hand. They actually looked at Barbie and kept on walking, but Barbie asked them to come back b/c she recognized the passport holder, which was ours. Apparently, someone had turned them into the customs office at the airport, but they didn’t recognize Barbie b/c she didn’t have blond hair anymore. Thank goodness Barbie noticed them looking, as we were able to get all of our passports back!

All in a all, a good week of fun and relaxation with the family, and despite the scare that someone had stolen our passports, it all ended up just fine.

Happy Easter

Brach's® Bunny Basket EggsAs you know, most kids spend Easter day searching for eggs filled with candy, and my childhood was no different.  I even remember doing it at school in elementary and searching for the “Golden” egg, which contained a whole dollar bill!  As I got older, my dad started to write Easter egg riddles, and I would have to figure out the riddle, which took me to one spot, where there would be another riddle.  After about 4-5 of these riddles I would find the “egg,” or whatever surprise was waiting for me.  Now, I thought after I moved out I wouldn’t have to do any more egg hunting in my life until I was searching with my kid.  Well, this year I have done a ton of hunting for a specific type of candy that only comes out during Easter.  Honestly, they are so rare I don’t really know the name of them, but after going to at least 5 different store chains over the past month, I finally found them at Target yesterday, just in time for Easter Sunday.  What are they you ask?  Well, they are now called Brach’s Bunny Basket Eggs. As the site says, Brach’s® Bunny Basket Eggsâ„¢ are marshmallow shaped eggs covered with a candy coated multi-colored, fruit flavored shell. These can be put in Easter baskets, used for Easter treat hunts, or for decorating Easter cakes.  Basically, anything with marshmallows, and I’m almost certain to like it, including those wonderful Peeps.

On another note, Barbie and I had this discussion today, and I didn’t believe her that Easter fell not only in April for some years, but also in March for other years.  Usually days that are required to fall on a particular day (Sunday) are based on the Nth day of a certain month, so how could this be for Easter.  My only conclusion was that maybe it had something to do with the moon, but that seemed rather difficult.  So, I decided to do a little research, and I had no idea how difficult it truly is to determine the day Easter will fall on…it has its own algorithm!  Click below to read more.
