Weekend festivities

This past weekend was more of a fly by the night weekend, with not a ton of stuff that I was required to do, but definitely things to do. Friday night was a friend’s 30th birthday (amazing how old we are all getting), followed by heading to our friend’s new bar…Finn Mccools. It’s way up north by the SFO airport, but we are already up there, so why not stop in and have a brew.

Saturday morning started off early (6am) with taking a friend to the airport, followed by watching the last set of the ladies wimbledon final. Mauresmo won, even though I was pulling for Hardene. Next, came a nice 3 hour nap to prepare myself for the afternoon of watching the world cup’s 3rd place game…which Germany won in a blowout (3-1). Kongratuleirt Deutschland! That evening I was supposed to go to an Oakland A’s game, but went over to a friends house for some BBQ since no one else went to that game. Good times, good food.

Sunday was all about the men’s final of wimbledon and the finals of the World Cup, however, I somehow had to manage a way to get up to San Francisco for an afternoon visit to Alcatraz with Barbie’s family. Well, I didn’t get up in time for the wimbledon final, and had to miss the 1st half of the World Cup game since I needed to catch the train, but at least I got to the bar in time for the 2nd half, and eventually overtime and PKs, which Italy won 5-3. Congratulations to all the Italians, who beat everybody but the USA. :) That afternoon was a trip to “the rock,” a.k.a. Alcatraz. Barbie and her mom had never been, imagine that. Anyways, it was my 2nd time out there, and was still very much enjoyable.

So, that was my weekend in a nutshell, hope yours was just as exciting, with a few less beers and a little bit more excercise. :)

Baby Graver

I’d like to announce that Barbie is expecting our first baby. Not sure if it is a boy or girl yet, but I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. According to the latest visit to the Doctor, the baby is very healthy is about the size of an avocado. Of course, at some point I’ll have to put together a betting pool for the date, weight, and time of the delivery, but that’ll come later. Despite not knowing the sex, we have already decided on the ‘theme’ of the baby room…WINNIE THE POOH. As a friend recently pointed out to me, there are two different colors for Winnie the Pooh, yellow or pastel yellow, but I have no idea which one we, or I should say Barbie, will choose. The only thing we have done with the room so far is to move the armoir out of it. Other than that, it is still my office/ guest bedroom.

There is a ton of stuff to learn about this whole process, and Barbie has me reading “What to expect while your wife is expanding“, which is the male version of “What to expect while your expecting. It is actually quite a funny book, and I thoroughly enjoy watching the majority of its predictions about what Barbie will do come true. Of course, our life is about to change 180 degrees, but we’ve still got a few more months to “live it up” before that happens, so if you have any suggestions please let us know!

LIFE HAPPENS

You may wonder where I’ve been, especially since I haven’t talked about the Miami Heat winning the NBA championship. Well, I’ve been living life and just haven’t gotten around to posting. When I say living life, I don’t mean going on a drinking binge celebrating the Heat’s championship, although that would be fun. So, onto what has happened or is curently happening related to sports.

Heat beat Mavs
In one of my last posts the Heat were down 0-2, and not showing any signs of life. And this was pretty much the case through 3 1/2 quarters of game 3, but Dwyane Wade stepped up and brought them back to victory to make it 2-1. After that, the series changed gears with the Heat blowing out the Mavs in game 4, and then winning a couple of close ones in games 5 and 6. The big story was the referees though, with all the Mavs fans blaming the refs for calling too many ticky tack fouls for Wade. Well, my opinion is that there were a few close calls, but at least Wade was taking it to the hole, whereas the Mavs would settle for jump shots at the end of the game. So, to all you Mavs fans, stop being a Steve Spurrier and quit your whining.

NBA Introduces New Game Ball
Since we are on the basketball theme, I’d thought I would let you know that the NBA will be using a new style of basketball for next season. They announced at the NBA Draft, and it supposed to have a better grip with more grip surface area that should make it better. Check it out: New NBA Basketball

Tour de France
Armstrong isn’t racing this year, and the whole thing is just boring, especially since 2 of the top favorites got banned a day before the race was supposed to start for using banned substances. I understand cyclists walk a tight line, but you would think they would be smart enough to stop cheating. I honestly don’t know how Armstrong did it without doping, but he hasn’t been busted, and claims he never will since he didn’t do anything wrong…GOOD FOR HIM.

That’s it for the world of sports right now, I’ll talk about the World Cup once it is over.
